Bono: Stories of Surrender — Andrew Dominik’s heartfelt tribute to Bono’s confessions

From packed stadiums to intimate venues, the only common denominator is Bono. Performing hits including Sunday Bloody Sunday and With or Without You, the singer and global star’s string of one-man stage shows in 2022 delighted a handful of special guests. And now the director of Blonde (2022), Andrew Dominik, is taking viewers on a scenic journey to the heart of the U2 singer’s tour with Bono: Stories of Surrender, a documentary presented at a Special Screening.

From New York’s Beacon Theatre to the Grand Rex in Paris, Bono played a limited run of around 15 shows to the happy few lucky enough to attend his book tour Stories of Surrender: An Evening of Words, Music and Some Mischief…. In this intimate production, the singer shared numerous life anecdotes already featured in his autobiography, Surrender. Some fans will recall the vivid description of his open-heart surgery back in 2016; interesting anecdotes about the band, which was almost called The Hype; revelations about his wife, who brings joy to his life; as well as the tragic death of his mother, a few days after his grandfather’s funeral.

New Zealand-born Australian director and screenwriter Andrew Dominik wrote the script for Blonde, a Marilyn Monroe biopic inspired by Joyce Carol Oates’ novel of the same name and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007), a western starring Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck. The director pays tribute to the poetic representation of Bono in a documentary comprised of exclusive footage from the New York leg of his tour. It also features the activist-singer performing many of the iconic U2 songs that have shaped his life and legacy.
